Indigo Rose Tomato; A Memory of tomatoes past

Indigo Rose Tomato; A Memory of tomatoes past

It is definitely summer around here. This morning I dumped buckets of water on plants, then used some flexible wire to stitch together the seams on the hardward cloth liner I stapled to an old raised bed frame which a friend gave away last year.  It is much too late to be planting, but I'm going to get this gopher-proof bed in place and full of soil anyway. it will probably stay warmer longer than last year, if the last 400 months of global temperature averages are any indication. but back to the point of this post...

Indigo Rose Tomatoes!  I planted these last year and absolutely loved them. They turn jet black instead of red, and also seem shinier than black krim or other 'black' tomatoes.  Visitors to the house would always ask about them, even Jehovas Witnesses asked to try some after I politely refused their invitation to a longer conversation.  Seeing those shiny black balls hanging off the plant made me feel like a magical witch, I mean how could I not be magical with such obviously mystical foodplants.  So. I highly recommend this type of tomato. they were tasty, and beautiful, and I wish I was growing them this year too.

Oh, also I cooked them up with some basil and stuff, it was delicious. Not super sweet, but a punch of flavor after cooking on the vine for a while. Mother Earth News did a taste test thing, looks like these are especially good as hot weather tomatoes. They also dehydrated wonderfully.
